ity of London Ladies Circle is the premier club for professional women aged 18-45 years. It enables you to take part in new, interesting and worthwhile activities. A new club, it was chartered in 2003, as the 1204th Member Club of the National Association of Ladies Circles of Britain and Ireland (NALC).

City of London Ladies Circle (and its brother club, City of London Round Table) is all about having fun with a group of friends while at the same time trying to help the community.

What’s it all about and why do we do it?

I cannot believe that April 2003 seems just like yesterday. One sunny Sunday lunch time we had our Charter lunch at the Boulevard Brasserie in Covent Garden attended by some 50 people, friends, family, Ladies Circlers and Round Tablers past and present.

The presentation was performed by Janet Wareing our then National President, who had come along despite the fact that she had not long been out of hospital after a horrific car accident, from which was was lucky to survive. It was brilliant to hear how the friendship that is so apparent in this organization helped her through the darkest days.

So what did we manage in our first year?

Socially we:

• Saw “Tonight’s the Night” at the Victoria Palace and did not realize Rod Stewart could be So Sexy
• Fell over at the Somerset House Ice Rink
• Admired the Exhibits at the Art Deco Exhibition at the V&A
• Salsa in the snow
• Got frightened by Jack the Ripper stories
• Ate Tapas at Canary Wharf

Charitable Work:

• Raised £475.00 for The British Heart Foundation
• Raised £300 for Breast Cancer Awareness by dressing up in Pink Clothes, eating and drinking Pink food and joining in a Pink Quiz!
• Volunteered at the Reception Desk and handed out the water at the Crisis City Race
• Volunteered at several Cancer Research Race for Life venue in the summer months
• Assisted the National Association of Clubs for Young People at their Annual Ball at the Lancaster Gate Hotel by being Jeffrey Archers little helpers for the Auction!
• Raised £180 by having to Taste Wine – well worth it
