FUND RAISING AND VOLUNTEERING

At the Ladies Circle one of our main aims is fund-raising for various charities. We enjoy the social aspect of Ladies Circle, but feel our biggest contribution can be made by helping these charities by providing volunteer assistance and organising events to raise money.

CANCER RESEARCH UK - NATIONAL LADIES CIRCLE CHARITY

Cancer Research UK - Race for life volunteering.

Organiser: Helen Keagan
This year we volunteered at the Battersea Park, Hampstead Heath, Richmond Park, Blackheath and Regents races. Volunteering involves:
  • Womaning the desks including: issuing new numbers, registrations, handing out safety pins and various other tasks. This was surprisingly hectic.
  • Sheparding the women to the start
  • Selling wrist-bands
  • Handing out drinks, fruit and gift-bags at the finish and, of course, a lot of saying "Well done!"
  • Helping with tidying up afterwards
We all enjoyed these events, at one of them we got soaking wet, another was a little chilly, but regardless of this, it was fun and inspiring.

Anna-Sofie, Helen and Susan ran the Richmond Race in the morning and volunteered in the afternoon. We were very proud of them, good job girls!         More Info...

Think Pink - Family Fortunes Fund-raiser (26 Oct 2005)

Organiser: Vicki Sales
Think Pink is an event organised by the London Ladies circle to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Vicki did excellent job or arranging this years event in the form a Family Fortunes gaming evening. We started with three rounds with two teams taking part in each team. The quality of the answers was pretty poor at the point. But then we broke for some snacks and a chat, raffle tickets sold and chosen and charity Christmas cards. Once we had all eaten, we resumed the games and the pace picked up. It seems the snacks inspired sharper thinking... or was it the wine? The winning team was a group of women, unfortunately I don't think I can mention their team name.

Thanks must go to Vicki (our Carol) and Martyn (our Les). And not forgetting Marissas handling of the raffle. Oh yes, and Susan sold some Christmas cards in aid of the National Association for Colitis and Crohn's Disease, our Chair's chosen charity (see below). In total we raised over £300 for Cancer Research UK and a had fun evening out.

Last year we raised money by each circle holding individual charity events throughout the year.  Our main yearly event to support this charity is a "Think Pink" night where all the proceeds go to Cancer Research UK.  Last year we had a Race Night which took the form of an evening of horse racing (on the screen), pink evening wear, hats and many snacks and raised £ 345.88.  Our national president was able to attend on this evening and Round Table ran the betting for us.   Think Pink is not only about raising money but having plenty of fun as well.
